Custom-built: inlaid frames

I took great pleasure in working on this project which was commissioned by the architect Betina Martau. She originally contacted me to design custom frames to ornate a wall separated by a fireplace in a house located in Gramado, in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.

Initially, I had designed a series of different sketches inspired by paintings of Gerard Gasiorowski. However, in order to fit the allocated budget, we decided on a unique design reproduced in different colors of veneers.

The result is 6 frames of 900x350mm that live in harmony through the use of various shades and veneer colors.

Custom-built projects

The Faubourg atelier is initiating a series of posts presenting custom-built projects. I have worked on in Brazil and in France. All these projects include the use of either marquetry or wood veneer.

The first project conceptualized by the architect Cristina Pacheco is a wardrobe with 3 sliding doors for an apartment located in Bela Vista in Porto Alegre. Doors measure 2020 x 750 mm and are located in an intimate part of the apartment where only the family can enjoy them.

Working closely with the client and after several drafts, we decided to utilize only 3 veneers in order to achieve a better and trendier visualization of the design: Maple venner for the background, Jatobá and Curupixa pommelé for the trees.
